New Applebee's at the mall

The new Applebee's building at the Outer Banks mall is progressing. After overcoming one setback earlier in construcion, when the heavy winds blew down one of the block walls, the building is moving along now, and probably will be open sometime this summer for business.

Proliferation of restaurant chains like Applebee's won't, in my opinion, add to the special feeling of the Outer Banks. I'd rather see more RV's, Sam & Omie's, Weeping Radish's, Mulligans and like local eateries than a Ground Round. It's kinda sad: We came to the OBX to escape the clutter and crowds of Atlantic City, Rehoboth, and Ocean City and in doing so we're contributing to the loss of what we came to find.

I think it's sad to see so many chain restaurants coming to the Outer Banks. I have been coming to the Outer Banks for 32 years and have always enjoyed the local food. I hope people remember the local restaurants when they travel to the Outer Banks or any other place for that matter. You can eat at Applebees or the Outback anywhere in the country.

I agree, we do come to the Banks to get away from mayhem. But we do have the choice not to go to these places to eat. Hooters, Applebees, Burger King, Mickey D's and the like. When I'm at the Banks, I do like when in Rome. Eat like the locals, they have it just right. I love every Outer Banks born restaurant. Some how, these chains feel if they build we will come. (oh how wrong they are)On vacation the only burger I'll eat is Mulligans.

Great comments....Would all of you send this same message to our
Tourist Bureau?
Someone needs to wake them up to the overdevelopment that is eating up the Outer Banks.
Thanks,
and Thanks Kim for your great website.
